The Dis/Agreement Project

Video Guide
  • Preparation

    • Before recording any video, you must make sure there is enough storage space on your device. To check the amount of available storage on an iPhone, navigate to Settings>General>iPhone Storage.

    • For a 30 minute video, you can expect to use about 8GB of storage.

    • If you need to clear space on your device, you can delete specific apps/files (i.e photos, videos, songs, and email attachments) within the iPhone Storage page in Settings. Before deleting, you may want to backup files to your computer using the USB to Lightning cable (feel free to email us at info@rybg.co if you need any assistance).

  • Camera

    • On iPhone, the built-in Camera app will be used to record your physical interview.

    • Use the back-facing camera at the default 1x zoom.

    • In the Settings app, use the following settings:

      • Format: “Most Compatible” (H.264)

      • Recording mode: 4K at 24fps

      • HDR Video: Off

      • Auto FPS: Off

      • Grid: On

      • (See video for visual walkthrough)

  • Ring Light Tripod

    • Assemble the ring light and tripod according to the instruction manual.

    • Install the white filter set and smartphone mount.

  • Background

    • Find a space large enough to allow for about 7 feet (~2 meters) between the camera and the participant.

    • While filming indoors is preferred, you may shoot outside if needed. Keep in mind, however, that you will have to position the ring light near a power outlet.

    • During your individual meeting with RYBG, we will help you setup your space for optimal shooting conditions.

  • Framing

    • All interviews should be filmed in the landscape/horizontal orientation.

    • The participant should be seated comfortably and centered in the frame from left to right (use the on-screen grid lines as a guide).

    • The tripod height should be adjusted so that the iPhone camera is at the eye-level of the participant.

    • To determine the proper distance from camera, have the participant raise their arms high above their head. The top of the frame should be above their fingertips with the top of their head along the upper horizontal grid line. The bottom of the frame should be just below their knees (see photo for example).

  • Delivery

    • You will receive a unique Dropbox File Request link via email. Please upload your videos to that link. If you do not have a Dropbox account, you can create one for free.

    • You may upload an interview as soon as it is done. Once we've confirmed via email that your video has been received, you may delete it from your smartphone to clear up storage space.

    • Upload the videos from your smartphone using the Dropbox mobile app (see video for visual walkthrough).

    • Avoid transferring videos to a computer over email or text message as this can reduce the video quality. If you must transfer to a computer, use a method like AirDrop for Mac users or the Lightning to USB cable (feel free to email us at info@rybg.co if you need any assistance).

  • Recording Audio

    • On iPhone, the built-in Voice Memos app will be used to record your spoken interview.

    • To record, tap the red circle at the bottom, and again to stop recording.

    • Email the recording to info@rybg.co by using the Share option in the app (see video for visual walkthrough).
